Fire Chief Dave Downey named Chief Fire Officer by the Center for Public Safety Excellence


(Miami, FL) - Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Fire (MDFR) Chief Dave Downey has earned the international professional designation of Chief Fire Officer (CFO) from the Center for Public Safety Excellence (CPSE).

Chief Downey joins an elite and exclusive membership of outstanding public safety officials limited to only 993 CFOs worldwide. The highly competitive CFO designation assures departments that their leaders have the educational and technical competencies necessary to meet the demands of today's society.

The CFO Designation Program was created to recognize fire officers who have demonstrated excellence and outstanding achievement throughout their career. This designation is awarded only individuals who efficaciously meet the rigorous criteria set by the Commission on Professional Credentialing, and can demonstrates a strategy for continued career improvement and development.

"In receiving this prestigious designation, Chief Downey has shown his desire to grow professionally and continue to provide exceptional service to our community," said Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos A. Gimenez. "He has a rich knowledge of the emergency services profession and has far surpassed critical core competencies for personnel serving in senior fire officer positions."

Fire Chief Downey has an associate's degree in Fire Science from Broward Community College, a bachelor's degree in Public Administration from Barry University, and a master's degree in Public Administration from Nova Southeastern University.
